Podiatry
Podiatry is the study and treatment of the foot and lower limb
biomechanics. A podiatrist will review the joint and muscle function
of your legs and feet and relate this information to your gait and
running styles. This information is then correlated to help arrange
an exercise programme and possible Orthotics (shoe inserts) to assist
you in improving your biomechanical function and movement.
Why Podiatry?
A podiatrist can help resolve numerous
musculoskeletal symptoms such as:
- Knee pain
- Sciatica
- Lower back pain
- Running style
- Hip pain
- Bunions/Calluses
- Achilles injuries
- Plantar fasciitis
Early intervention is the key to preventing any number of conditions
from occurring in the first place.
Appointments
Your consultation will last 60 minutes which enables us to assess
your problem and detail a treatment plan. Should you have a complicated
problem or require a detailed bio-mechanical/gait assessment, then
we recommend you schedule a gait analysis appointment at the same
time.
This is particularly beneficial if you are travelling a long way
or need to implement a treatment plan quickly. However, we do not
advise a gait analysis if you are in significant pain as this will
affect the assessment.
Your hip and knee function will often be assessed so it is advisable
to wear loose fitting clothes, preferably shorts. If your shoe style
varies, please bring a selection of shoes so that these can be assessed.
Payments
All fees are to be paid on the day of your visit, including patients
with medical insurance. A receipt will be issued to allow you to
reclaim this from your insurer. Payment is accepted by cash or cheque.
