Reiki - The Usui System Of Natural Healing
Reiki (pronounced Ray-kee) is an ancient natural healing technique,
it is gentle yet powerful and is applied by the 'laying on of hands'
on the body. It was thought to have originated in Tibet around three
thousand years ago, was rediscovered in Japan late in the 1800's
by Dr. Mikao Usui and was then brought to the West through Hawaii
by a woman named Hawayo Takata. Reiki is a Japanese word - Rei means
'universal' and refers also to the spiritual dimension and the soul.
Ki - means vital life force, it is the energy which is all around
us and which is needed by every living being. Reiki is best understood
through experience, not by explanation.
Reiki is a radionics wave like radio and can thus be applied locally
or by short wave - distant treatment can be given. Its existance
has been verified by Kirlian photography - a technique which allows
etheric energy patterns around living being to be photographed.
It is a practical, safe and gentle treatment acting as an activator,
energiser and transformer of energy. It facilitates healing on all
levels - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, providing deep
relaxation by restoring the body's natural balance and promoting
peace, harmony and well-being; it stimulates the body's own innate
healing abilitiy, while strengthening the immume system.
It can be applied to:
- Increase vitality; raise energy levels; increase motivation.
- Raise self esteem and promote positive emotions focusing on
love, joy, trust etc.
- Cleanse the body of impurities, promoting good health and well-being.
- Increase awareness of oneself, elevating intuition and trust
of own feelings.
Reiki is extremely effective in cases such as:
- Depression, anxiety, insomnia and stress.
- Broken bones; tooth ache and extractions.
- Cancer and degenerative diseases.
- Sports injuries and stiffness.
- Migraines.
During
a full body treatment the recipient normally lies down comfortably
(although Reiki may be applied anywhere - sitting or standing etc).
The recipient remains fully clothed as Reiki passes through material,
plaster, bandages etc. The practitioner places their hands either
on or close to the body and Reiki passes through. As Reiki is an
intelligent energy, it flows in accordance to the needs of the body
- working on a cellular level and going to the cause of illness;
the practitioner simply acts as a channel as Reiki energy cannot
be controlled or directed. People may experience a variety of different
sensations during a treatment - the most common are heat, tingling
and heavyness or weightlessness and normally feel a sense of deep
calm and relaxation. It is important to hydrate the body after a
treatment by drinking plenty of water - aiding in the purification
of the body.
Reiki may be incorporated and greatly compliments all healing modalities,
often enhancing their effectiveness.
